Less than three months after celebrating World Backup Day, we have another international awareness celebration to… well… celebrate. It turns out that June is Backup Awareness Month. That’s right, backup nerds (including the ones that are crazy about the cloud) have something else to celebrate this month; plus, we now have another reason to bother our friends incessantly about backing up their data.
Much like World Backup Day, Backup Awareness month is being spearheaded by backup company Backblaze. Sadly there aren’t myriad prizes associated with this one, but instead the Backblaze blog is putting together something equally cool. If you happen to have a story about how Backblaze “saved your life” in one way or another, Backblaze is inviting you to send them in to love@backblaze.com.
But, an entire month for Backup Awareness? Yes, there are still too many people out there that do not backup the stuff on their PC or Mac and lose irreplaceable data. Yes, it’s true. Try this: ask 10 of your friends, “Do you backup your computer everyday?” See how few do, and then see how many different reasons you get for why they don’t, “It’s too hard”, “too expensive”, “I forget to do it”, “what’s backup”. We’ve heard them all. You’ll quickly see why we need a whole month for Backup Awareness. You have 30 days, better get started…
Throughout the month Backblaze will be sharing some of their favorite stories, so if you have something especially cool don’t miss the opportunity to send it in. No prizes or awards have been announced for those stories that get picked, but if your story could be the catalyst that leads to someone else getting their own backup and forming their own triumphant story, which should be enough of a reward in itself.
