Every day, I get e-mails from people asking me to review a certain online backup service. As you know there are probably hundreds of online backup providers out there, so it is impossible to review every one of them. In this post I wanted to give you a little overview what reviews I am planning to do in the near future and also some of the reviews I’ve already done.
Why am I doing this? Well, for one, I want to satisfy all those queries that I get via the different social media channels. On the other hand, I want to pressure myself a little bit to push out new content for Cloudbackuping.com. Most of the reviews I have already in my head, because I used and tested the majority of the services and took some notes. So the only task that is left is to write the review and stitch together some nice videos that you’re used to watch here.
First of all let’s summarize the reviews you already can find on Cloudbackuping.com:
JustCloud
JustCloud is one of my favorite online backup services because it is so easy to use and gives you unlimited online storage. Also, you have the option to share and sync your files among friends and family. The only feature I wish it had is continuous backup, meaning that I don’t have to set a backup schedule.
Backblaze
Just like JustCloud Backblaze offers unlimited online backup and is probably the easiest online backup service. You don’t have to take care of anything, just install the client and your data gets shoved onto their servers. Also, you get a 15 day free trial to test if Backblaze fits your needs.
Carbonite
Carbonite, too, offers unlimited online backup and was one of the first remote online backup services on the Internet. It is very easy to use, and provides fast upload and restore speeds. However, it does not backup automatically movies and there are only annual plans available. However, for $59 per year is at the very cheap and.
Mozy Home
Mozy is a very reliable online backup service offering a 50 GB and a 125 GB plan at very cheap rates. Unfortunately, they got rid of their unlimited plan. Mozy introduced recently their new software called Mozy Stash which allows you to sync your files from your backups among your machines.
SugarSync
SugarSync is a great service because it combines online backup with synchronization capabilities. Plans go up to 500 GB which is plenty of space for all your media needs.
Dropbox
We all know Dropbox, don’t we? It is certainly one of the best online synchronization services out there. The speed, and ease of use is top notch and you’ll never find yourself in the situation of having to carry an external hard drive anymore. However, Dropbox is pretty expensive and there are cheaper alternatives. They do offer a free 2GB plan, though.
SpiderOak
If you’re looking for the most secure online backup and synchronization service, I can highly recommend SpiderOak. They have a “zero knowledge privacy”, which means that even SpiderOak staff does not know what kind of files you upload to their servers. So it wouldn’t be possible for them to hand files to the authorities.
IDrive
IDrive is a solid online backup and storage solution which gives you plenty of options to upload and manage your data online as well as from your desktop. The upload is very speedy (among the speediest of the services tested) and is highly reliable.
Keepit
Keepit as one of the lesser-known online backup services and also promises unlimited online backup at very affordable rates. However, it’s hard for them to compete against the big players but they are doing all right.
Acronis
Acronis is known for their encryption suite called true crypt. So it was only a question of time when they entered the online backup market because security and encryption is one of the most important aspects when you transfer sensitive data over the Internet. Acronis offers 250 GB of online backup but you cannot sync your data among multiple devices.

MyPCBackup
MyPCBackup offers unlimited online backup but didn’t perform well in my 1st test. However, they recently updated their servers and software and now it works a lot better than before.
SOS Online Backup
SOS Online Backup is one of the veterans in the backup and online storage space. They have plans starting at 50 GB but you can opt for more at additional cost. Also they offer a backup service for your social media life. SOS online backup is a very trustworthy provider that I can highly recommend as well.
Livedrive
Livedrive is also among the providers that offer unlimited online backup but also it offers a 5 TB of syncing space to manage your files with multiple machines. However, I found livedrive not to be as reliable as Dropbox or SugarSync. Also, there are cheaper alternatives than light drive that you might want to consider.
Bitcasa
Bitcasa is still in beta, but it seems to be a highly attractive service as it offers unlimited online storage and syncing space. What is unique is the sync: unlike dropbox which offers only 100 GB you can sing now any files that you have. I’ll be closely watching it causes development in future and provide you with up-to-date reviews of that provider.
ADrive
ADrive is one of the weaker online backup providers, in fact, it is rather online storage then back up because it offers FTP access to your files. Also, it is pretty expensive. But if you need FTP access then ADrive might be the perfect solution for you.
Online backup reviews yet to come
These are going to be the online backup reviews that I have planned for the next weeks. I will assign the date for each review to keep track of my progress and hopefully I will manage to convert all my notes into nice and detailed reviews and videos of those services.

Amazon Cloud
23 February – Done!
Probably you know Amazon for buying books and other goods but few people know that Amazon is actually one of the largest providers for cloud storage. That’s why I want to review Amazon Cloud Drive which is the consumer part of their professional Amazon S3 platform.
Box.com
27 February – Done!
Box is a great service for synchronization and collaboration in a team. But it also offers backup for your data and I get lots of e-mails asking me for review of that service. That’s why I have included this service in the list.
Crashplan
29 February – uh, I think I will be late for this one
Crash plan is another famous online backup service which offers plenty of features and also unlimited online backup. Being so famous out wanted to take some time reviewing its to provide you with in-depth information on that service.
ElephantDrive

For personal users elephant Drive starts at $9.95 which gives you 100 GB of storage. It is one of the more expensive online backup services and we are going to have a look at whether it is worth it.
Flipdrive
5 March

Flip drive offers cloud storage and file collaboration. So nothing fancy here. The professional plan is quite expensive with $9.95 per month and doesn’t offer lots of features. Nevertheless I will have a look at how the service works and if you might consider it an alternative to crop box.

11 March

Normally we know Norton because of their antivirus software. However, they also have an online backup suite which helps you store your data in a secure manner online. It is quite inexpensive online backup solution offering only little space but if you are a Norton user anyway you might prefer staying within the same user experience.
Safecopy Backup
13 March
Save copy backup gives you 3 GB of storage for free for life. This is 1 GB more than dropbox for example. It is one of the few providers that allow you to backup external hard drives without additional cost and also you can share files with friends. Security is also top notch offering a 448 military grade encryption.
OpenDrive
15 March
With open drive you can store, backup, sync and share your files online with anybody in a secure manner. Granted, these are not unique features but we are going to have a look at how open drive executes and combines those features. The home version starts at $5 per month and gives you 100 GB of storage, however you’re limited to files up to 1 GB in size.
Storegate
17 March
Store gate offers safe off-site storage which is obviously nothing new so we are going to have a look at what unique features they offer in comparison to other online backup services.
Syncplicity
19 March

Syncplicity claims to be the easiest way to share, sink and access your files wherever you are. They do offer an app for the iPhone where you can manage your documents on the go. You get 2 GB of storage for free and can upgrade to 50 GB for $15 per month supporting up to 5 computers.
